SEO has really got expensive

I was talking about a SEO strategy with a client when I was hit with one of the most absurd offers I ever came across. Indeed, SEO is a job where you cannot really make promises because there are a lot of unknown factors in the ecuation. This is a follow-up to another post I did about SEO and social media services that promises but don’t promise but don’t deliver, but this time with a twist: outrageous prices for practically useless things.

It seems there are a lot of clients with practically no SEO experience that believe that such a service is generally worth over $2000. Otherwise, I cannot explain the crazy offer that follows :

google supports paid links, after all!

It sounds like a blasphemy but when I check the backlinks of a site, Google AdSense serves me this ad:

paid links

So guess it’s ok to buy links now, right?

matt cutts predicts the web in 2008

Got around to reading Matt Cutts’s predictions for 2008 about the face of the internet. Some interesting points raised, ones more realistic than others…

2008 will be the year that hacking and search engine optimization collide in a major way - got that right! just woke up two days ago with a website invaded by a Turkish harker. But this won’t go far enough. If you’re on a secur server of a well-established hosting company, you just need to replace the password with a random one. So take this opportunity and secure all your accounts with a tight password.

The most exciting product/start-up of 2008 will not be a Web 2.0 company. Instead, it will concentrate on improving email productivity. - Can’t really see this happening. Social media is ever growing and it has to make up for all the niche topics and communities out there. The web will continue to develop around social media and not e-mails. Just my 2 cents.

An RSS startup will add the ability to take a normal RSS blog feed and produce a “best of” feed that picks only the most popular/controversial/interesting items. - Since you are already subscribed to the RSS of a website, then you are interested in most of the articles if not all posted there. I’d like to have the opportunity to pick the best posts, not have an algorithm do it for me.

Domains for $4 - I can see this happening. I just caught an offer from my hosting company that sold domains for 6 bucks. Why not discount it more? Imagine all the domains that will pop up and the spam you’ll get.

If you’re interested in the rest of Matt’s predictions, check out the post. As for my thoughts, I think environmental blogs will grow even further, some new social media website will arise and SEO will turn more into SEM. Looking forward to see what the web will be like this year.

the google code was cracked!

No, I’m just playing. But this seems to believe he really did the job. Just want to share with you this amazing letter about the secret of #1 rankings in search engines. Seems like Alladin’s lamp.

I wanted to send you a quick email to tell you about this new product I recently came across. It’s getting some awesome feedback from its community of users. Apparently a guy from Indiana has created a new software product that makes getting high quality, one-way links, easier than ever.

If you don’t know already, getting these quality, one way links is THE quickest way for someone to get a top search engine ranking in all the major engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN). I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on “search engine optimization” and while they’re many black hat tricks that people are doing to gettop rankings in the search engines, they’re all very short lived, and their sites eventually lose their rankings.

With that said, this new software product is the complete opposite. You see, the search engines absolutely love websites that have lots of high quality, 1 way links pointing to them. And what this software can do for you is, help you get those quality, 1 way links, faster than any other method that I know of.

You literally just enter your article submission details into the software. Click a few buttons and bam… you’ve got 1 way links pointing to your site. It’s a fantastic way to give your website a HUGE kickstart in the search engines.

Finally he prompts me to keep the secret for myself. Yeah, buddy, I sure will. The website the e-mail is referring to isn’t even working!
